Plutus is changing card provider!
Currently, Solaris issues our Plutus Cards and provides the card accounts behind them. We are closing our old Solaris card programme and opening a new one with Modulr!
Solaris Cardholders
This section applies to all customers who signed up to Plutus before June 12th, 2023 and were issued a card by our old provider, Solaris.
Whilst all cards are Plutus-branded, for ease-of-understanding:
- Cards issued by Solaris will be referred to as Solaris Cards (formerly Contis)
- Cards issued by Modulr will be referred to as Modulr Cards
What do I need to know? What are the key dates?
- Up until August 15th, 2023 - you can use your physical Solaris Card as usual.
- In July, Solaris Card replacement orders will be disabled. This means if you have lost or damaged your Solaris Card, you won’t be able to order a replacement one as it will likely arrive close to, or after, the Solaris cards termination date.
- UK customers can order a replacement Solaris card up until July 20th, 2023
- EEA customers can order a replacement Solaris card up until July 7th, 2023
- The difference in date is driven by current card delivery timings.
- From July 25th, 2023, you will receive a new Virtual Modulr Card. Google Pay will be available at the end of August, and Apple Pay will be available in Q4. You can add the virtual Modulr card to these e-wallets so you can use it in-store.
- This means you will temporarily have two Plutus Cards (details found in app):
- A Virtual Modulr Card (new)
- A Physical Solaris Card (old) - On August 15th, 2023, your existing physical Solaris Card will become void, and we will close your Solaris account. You will receive an official email regarding the closure of your Solaris account tomorrow.
- In the coming months, you will be able to order a new physical Modulr Card within the Plutus app. Details will be communicated closer to the time.
What do I need to do?
- By August 15th, 2023, you will need to clear all funds on your physical Solaris Card (i.e. have a £/€0.00 card balance). You can do this by spending your funds using the card or by withdrawing them from an ATM.
- Once your physical Solaris Card balance is £/€0.00 on August 15th, 2023, please destroy your card by cutting it through the chip and mag-stripe.
Any suggestions on how to get my Solaris Card balance to £/€0.00 exactly?
It’s not easy to spend down to zero balance, we know - here are a few alternative methods:
- Third-party e-Wallets - Add your Solaris Card to another wallet such as Revolut or PayPal and top up your third-party wallet using funds from your Solaris Card.
- Round Figures - Top up your Physical Solaris Card to a round figure (e.g. €20) and then spend it or withdraw funds via an ATM. (e.g. top up €12.20 to a €7.80 card balance to arrive at €20 balance and withdraw this from an ATM).
What happens if I still have residual Solaris Card balance on or after August 15th, 2023?
Don’t worry, if any funds remain on your Solaris card account on, or after, the closure date (August 15th, 2023), you can redeem these from Solaris directly free of charge. We will communicate to you later on how you may do so.
What are the benefits of the new card programme?
Your new Modulr Card will come packed with improvements that you can enjoy:
- Higher limits
- Unified account/card balance
-
Google/Apple Pay
-
Direct Debits
FAQ (Further information)
I thought I already had a Modulr account?
Currently, there are two balances visible in-app and these are managed by different partners. Your current account is provided by Modulr, and your card account is provided by Solaris.
Your Solaris card account is now being closed and a new card account is being opened with Modulr. This means you can enjoy a consolidated current/card account and no longer have to top up your card!

After my Solaris card account is closed, how can I get refunds for any of the last transactions? Where will the money go?
The refunds will reside with Solaris and you can reach out to them directly after August 15th 2023 to reclaim those refunds as they belong to you.
All residual fund redemptions will be returned to you within 7 working days from the point of receiving your email. They may need to verify your identity when you write in as I am sure you can appreciate the need to ensure they are handing over funds to the rightful individual.
We will communicate exactly how to contact Solaris closer to August 15th, 2023.
